Installation guide for aluminum alloy frame with waterproof backing plate

1、 Preliminary preparation

1. List of Materials and Tools

-Main materials: aluminum alloy frame (profiles need to be customized according to design dimensions), waterproof backing plate (such as PVC board, aluminum-plastic panel or galvanized steel plate).   

-Auxiliary materials: waterproof sealant (silicone or polyurethane), self tapping screws (stainless steel material), expansion bolts, waterproof tape, corner code connectors.   

-Tools: electric drill, cutting machine (or angle grinder), level, tape measure, rubber hammer, rubber gun, wrench, screwdriver.   

2. On site inspection

-Confirm that the installation base (such as walls, floors) is flat, free of cracks, and has a moisture content of ≤ 10%. If it is an exterior wall, the integrity of the waterproof layer needs to be checked.   

-Check the design drawings and mark the positioning lines of the aluminum alloy frame and the block positions of the backing plate.

2、 Aluminum alloy frame installation

1. Measurement and cutting

-Use a cutting machine to cut aluminum alloy profiles according to the drawing dimensions, and the cut needs to be polished to remove burrs. Vertical columns and horizontal beams need to reserve a 0.5-1mm gap for thermal expansion and contraction.   

2. Fixed frame

-Step 1: Locate the borehole

Calibrate the verticality with a spirit level and mark the expansion bolt holes on the base surface (spacing ≤ 600mm).   

-Step 2: Install the corner code

Connect the corners of the frame with corner brackets and temporarily fix them with screws to ensure a 90 ° right angle.   

-Step 3: Anchor the frame

Drill holes at the marked locations with an electric drill, insert expansion bolts, and secure the frame to the wall. Check the overall levelness error to be ≤ 2mm/m.   

3. Waterproof treatment

-Apply waterproof sealant to the joint between the frame and the wall, with a width of ≥ 5mm, and compact it with a scraper.

3、 Installation of waterproof backing plate

1. Pre treatment of backing plate

-Cut the backing plate according to the size, and the edges should be flat. If multiple pieces are spliced, 2-3mm expansion joints need to be reserved.   

-Waterproof tape (such as butyl tape) can be applied to the back of the board to enhance sealing.   

2. Fixed backing plate

-Method 1: Screw fixation

Use self tapping screws to lock the backing plate onto the aluminum alloy frame (spacing 300-400mm), with the screw head sinking 0.5mm into the plate surface and covered with sealant.   

-Method 2: Snap on installation

Some aluminum alloy frames are designed with card slots. Insert the edge of the backing plate into the slot and fix it with a rubber hammer by tapping lightly.   

3. Seam waterproofing treatment

-The joints between plates shall be filled with closed cell foam strips, and then the weather resistant sealant shall be injected. The adhesive surface is concave and curved (conducive to drainage).   

-Waterproof rolls or metal pressure strips should be used to reinforce the corners.

4、 Key precautions

1. Waterproof details

-All screw holes and seams must be sealed with glue to avoid the formation of water leakage channels.   

-EPDM waterproof rubber strip can be added between the backing plate and the frame for dual protection.   

2. Response to thermal expansion and contraction

-Leave expansion joints between aluminum alloy and backing plate to avoid cracking caused by temperature deformation.   

3. Quality acceptance

-Splashing test: After installation, simulate rainfall and check for no leakage on the inside.   

-After the sealant is cured, there should be no soft collapse or cracking when touched by hand.

5、 Common problem solving

-Problem 1: Frame shaking

Reason: The expansion bolt is not tightened or the base strength is insufficient.   

Solution: Add bolts or reinforce the base surface (such as grouting).   

-Problem 2: Backboard bulging

Reason: The screw spacing is too large or the glue is not completely dry and compressed.   

Solution: Add fixed points, reapply glue and let it stand for 24 hours.

6、 Safety Tips

-High altitude operations require wearing safety belts and using stable scaffolding.   

-Wear goggles when cutting to avoid splashing metal debris.
