Exterior wall waterproof backing board is an auxiliary material designed specifically for building exterior wall waterproof systems, usually installed between the waterproof layer (such as waterproof coating, roll) and the base layer of the building structure. Its main functions include:

1. Waterproof enhancement: By physically blocking moisture infiltration, it compensates for possible minor defects in the waterproof layer.   

2. Stress buffering: Absorb the deformation stress caused by temperature difference and settlement in the building structure to prevent cracking of the waterproof layer.   

3. Base leveling: Fill in the unevenness of the wall surface to provide a uniform construction base for the waterproof layer.   

4. Breathable and moisture-proof: Some products have a microporous structure, allowing water vapor to be discharged and avoiding internal condensation.

1. Extruded polystyrene board (XPS)

-Features: Closed cell structure, high compressive strength (150-700kPa), low thermal conductivity (0.028-0.032W/(m · K)), suitable for high humidity environments.

2. Expanded polyethylene foam board (EPE)

-Characteristics: Excellent flexibility (tensile strength ≥ 0.15MPa), suitable for walls with large deformations, and low cost.   

-Limitations: Long term exposure to ultraviolet radiation can cause aging and requires an external protective layer.   


3. Composite fiberboard (such as cement-based backing board)

-Features: Class A fire rating, strong impact resistance, commonly used in high-rise buildings or areas with strict fire protection requirements.   

-Limitations: Due to its large self weight (≥ 10kg/m ²), the base structure needs to be reinforced.   


4. Rubber modified asphalt board

-Features: Self adhesive design, easy construction, elastic recovery rate ≥ 85%, suitable for irregular wall surfaces.   

-Limitations: Poor high temperature resistance (applicable temperature range -20 ℃~60 ℃).   


3、 Application scenarios and selection suggestions

1. Climate adaptation selection

-Rainy areas: XPS board+breathable film combination is preferred to balance waterproofing and moisture resistance.   

-Large temperature difference area: EPE or rubber modified board is recommended to adapt to thermal expansion and contraction.   


2. Matching of building types

-Steel structure building: Use lightweight EPE board (density ≤ 30kg/m ³) to reduce load.   

-Basement wall: XPS board with compressive strength ≥ 300kPa is required to resist soil pressure.   


3. Economic considerations

-Low cost solution: EPE board (unit price about 15-25 yuan/m ²) combined with acrylic waterproof coating.   

-Long term solution: XPS board (unit price 40-60 yuan/m ²) combined with polyurethane waterproof layer, with a lifespan of up to 20 years.

1. Grassroots treatment

-Flatness requirement: Check with a 2m ruler, with gaps ≤ 3mm, and repair any unevenness with polymer mortar.   

-Moisture content control: The moisture content of concrete base should be less than 8%, and that of wood base should be less than 12%.   


2. Plate installation

-Splicing treatment: The board joints are connected by tongue and groove or reserved with 5-8mm expansion joints, and filled with elastic sealant.   

-Fixed method: It is recommended to use polymer adhesive (dosage ≥ 4kg/m ²) and plastic anchor bolts (6-8 pieces/m ²) for XPS boards.   


3. Processing of detailed nodes

-Yin Yang angle: An additional 45 ° angled reinforcement layer with a width of ≥ 200mm.

-Wall penetrating pipeline: The diameter of the backing plate opening is 10mm larger than the pipe diameter, and the surrounding area is sealed with butyl tape.

-Adhesive strength: on-site pull-out test ≥ 0.1MPa (GB 50207-2012).

-Cause: Failure of sealing material or cold joint during construction.   

-Countermeasure: Adopt two-component polyurethane sealant (elastic modulus ≥ 0.4MPa).

-Cause: Mismatched breathability leads to steam pressure difference.   

-Countermeasure: Calculate the dew point position and set the exhaust structure (such as setting one exhaust hole every 20 square meters).
